WHAT IS PILSEN IN GREY ?
Pilsen In Grey: The Situation and Controversy of Gentrification is a documentary revolved around the gentrification issue specifically in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.

In an attempt to highlight the two sides that seem to take up the discussion when it comes to this topic of gentrification and being anti-gentrification falls on the battle for the preservation of Pilsen's Mexican culture and working-class people, we display the complex and grey issue that is gentrification.

The purpose of this film is to shed light on the issue of gentrification through the use of a variety of perspectives in the neighborhood while attempting to educate and propose a discussion within the neighborhood.

Pilsen In Grey: The Situation and Controversy of Gentrification debut days are free events open to the public. They include general admission to see the documentary as well as a small Q&A and reception at the end.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, our team has made the decision not to display the documentary in a public setting like a screening due to the potential risk of health towards the staff and managers who would be hosting us at any particular location, risk to our own documentary staff, and risk to the audience. As a result, the documentary has been released onto YouTube.
Mission Statement
Pilsen is a neighborhood on the Lower West Side of Chicago. One of the major situations within Pilsen is the situation of gentrification, in which a predominantly lower class neighborhood undergoes redevelopment to please that of middle class taste.
There is a polarizing divide on gentrification, and our goal is to investigate both sides of the spectrum and to figure out the benefits and disadvantages of gentrification; as well as figure out the consequences of gentrification in neighborhoods.

Pilsen In Grey is a documentary revolving around the situation of gentrification in Pilsen. Through the use of the complex and diverse perspectives of community members, organizations, and people in positions of government or in power, this documentary tries to find the root problem of gentrification in Pilsen and resolve any misconceptions of the issue while proposing possible solutions.
About Us
At the time, we were a group of students from Benito Juarez Community Academy in the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) program. This documentary is a passion-project done by 6 seniors from or with association with Pilsen and the community. The purpose of this documentary is to shed light on the situation of gentrification in Pilsen - as well as - giving a platform for many on their perspective of the situation.
As well as to find the root problem of the situation from policies in place and the limitation of action from the latino community; as well as to study the effects on current residents.
